Mental Health & Wellbeing Support in Schools

‘Bounce’ @ Systemisk is the provision of wellness and resilience building support to schools. ‘Bounce’ focuses on providing our children with a safe space within the school setting to encourage the opportunity for reflection and processing of life events and experiences with the aim of recurring and integrated re-strengthening of resiliency and well-being skills. Our youth are exposed to a number of pressures from a young age; educational attainment, social acceptance and a sense of belonging, exposure to social norms and judgements (exacerbated by social media), all things the underdeveloped young brain can find difficult to make sense of if difficulties are experienced along the way of childhood development. ‘Bounce’ takes a proactive approach with this insight, by building resiliency to prevent adverse responses to life experiences, as opposed to being reactive once distress is experienced and manifests through unhelpful or harmful means.

With parental consent, as appropriate to age, ‘Bounce’ @ Systemisk, will hold an initial consultation with the educational provider about initial needs and concerns. We will then undertake a needs assessment to identify baseline levels of resiliency and areas of need in terms of wellbeing, and in response to this design a tailored package of support for the school; being needs dependent. Depending on initial outcomes, this may be specific year groups or forms being offered the support or a whole school approach accommodated.

Systemisk ‘Bounce’ packages can be tailored to meet the needs of primary or secondary school aged pupils, and equally adapted to accommodate children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). An example of introductory support package content, includes sessions on:

  •        Mind-body connectivity (our tricky brain)

  •        The three emotions systems (drive system, soothing system, threat system)

  •        Emotional literacy (my emotions and me)

  •        Kindness (the shield of shame)

  •        Identity (my tree of growth)

  •        Resilience skills (a healthy inside and outside)

  •        My strengths (my skill toolbox)

Systemisk advocates a holistic approach to wellbeing. As such the ‘Bounce’ school provision includes the use of nature and animals to support the understanding of how we relate to ourselves, the world and others. Systemisk have a range of animals trained to support ‘Animal Assisted Therapy’ approaches. An additional option available through ‘Bounce’, is our animals joining in on the wellness process with helping our kids along the way on their journey to achieving strength and resilience.

At Systemisk we understand that a healthy and safe environment is fostered by the people and relationships within it. Therefore we also consider the wellbeing of teachers and educational providers paramount to the success of our children’s growth and ability to thrive. We therefore also offer support packages for teachers. This can take the form of supervision, training or team reflective spaces. Again, any package of support is needs assessed and a bespoke package of support provided based on outcomes of an initial consultation and needs analysis.

All involvement and input into educational provisions will be fully compliant with the school’s safeguarding policy and will also be in line with your allocated psychologist’s qualifications governing bodies and ethical guidelines and protocols.
