About Systemisk Psychology

Why Systemisk?

We are a psychology practice inspired by Nordic approaches to mental health, where simplicity, balance, and connection to everyday living form the foundation of care. Rooted in Scandinavian principles, our model blends evidence-based psychology with lifestyle-oriented practices that prioritise gentle environments, meaningful routines, and sustainable wellbeing.

Our ethos draws from concepts such as slowing down, engaging with nature, fostering social trust, and creating functional, soothing spaces—translating these into an applied therapeutic approach. This means we don’t just focus on what happens in the therapy room, but also how clients shape their daily lives: from structuring restorative habits and reducing cognitive overload, to cultivating resilience through simplicity and intentional living.

By integrating clinical expertise with Nordic-inspired wellbeing approaches, we aim to provide support that is both psychologically rigorous and practically grounded—helping individuals build lives that feel manageable, balanced, and deeply fulfilling.

When choosing our name, we decided upon Systemisk, which is the Norwegian word for systemic. We felt this encapsulated both our Nordic roots, and the strong belief in a holistic, sustained approach to mental health that is at the core of all the services we provide.

Wellbeing should be integrated into daily life, not just tagged on as an afterthought. A bit like the difference between healthy eating and dieting - healthy eating is a sustained, proactive, lifestyle approach, whereas dieting, which may act as a short-term fix, is often reactive and unsustainable in the long term.

What does the Systemisk approach look like in practice?

The systemic influences and pressures on our lives can be intense. We do not live in isolation from the people we are connected to, or the environments within which we exist, and the world around us invariably affects our mental health and wellbeing. It therefore seems illogical to support only the individual if you hope to achieve sustained, life changing outcomes.

In order to offer a high quality, and effective, service in mental wellness, Systemisk’s approach includes working with the systems (such as schools, GPs, places of work) and the social networks (caregivers, teachers, employers) that surround an individual as standard practice in the provision of support.

At Systemisk, our objective is to help people navigate periods of life challenge and change, and we do so within a holistic approach. We understand that in times of difficulty, the mental health system can be difficult to navigate, and we care about adding simplicity to that process. Our aim is to help people find optimism during times of struggle, and to enhance connections to people and places that will provide continued care and support.

Systemisk in the community

At Systemisk psychology, we believe good psychological care shouldn’t begin only at the point of crisis. Prevention, early understanding and access to reliable psychological knowledge can make a meaningful difference long before someone seeks therapy.

For this reason, part of our work focuses on contributing beyond the therapy room. In recent years we have delivered voluntary workshops in local schools, sharing evidence-based psychological ideas with children, parents and educators, to support early understanding of mental health.

As our practice develops, we hope to build on this work — offering more preventative workshops and finding ways to collaborate with organisations and communities who may not otherwise have access to specialist psychological support.
